New Russian commemorative coins: 70 years of the Battle of Stalingrad

The Central Bank of Russia announced that on May 24th they will issue 3 new coins, commemorating 70 years since the defeat of Nazi troops at Stalingrad.

The Battle of Stalingrad (August 23, 1942 – February 2, 1943) was a major battle of World War II in which Nazi Germany and its allies fought the Soviet Union for controlling the city of Stalingrad. Marked by constant close-quarters combat and lack of regard for military and civilian casualties, it is among the bloodiest battles in the history of warfare. The heavy losses inflicted on the German army make it one of the most strategically decisive battles of the whole war.
