Romania – Set of 3 coins to celebrate 175 years since the birth of Titu Maiorescu

Pursuant to the provisions of Law No. 312/2004 on the Statute of the National Bank of Romania, as of 16 February 2015, the National Bank of Romania will put into circulation, for numismatic purposes, a set of three coins (made of gold, silver and copper-plated tombac) dedicated to the anniversary of 175 years since Titu Maiorescu’s birth.

The coins (made of gold, silver and copper-plated tombac) in the set have the following technical characteristics:

Obverse of the gold coin: the image of Vasile Pogor Mansion in Iași, where the meetings of “Junimea” Society were held, the inscription “ROMANIA” in an arc, the face value “100 LEI”, the coat of arms of Romania and the year of issue “2015”.

Obverse of the silver coin: the image of Vasile Pogor Mansion in Iași, where the meetings of “Junimea” Society were held, the inscription “ROMANIA” in an arc, the face value “10 LEI”, the coat of arms of Romania and the year of issue “2015”.

Obverse of the copper-plated tombac coin: the image of Vasile Pogor Mansion in Iași, where the meetings of “Junimea” Society were held, the inscription “ROMANIA” in an arc, the face value “1 LEU”, the coat of arms of Romania and the year of issue “2015”.

Reverse (common to all coins made of gold, silver and copper-plated tombac in the set) : the portrait of Titu Maiorescu, his birth and death years – “1840” and “1917” – and the inscription “TITU MAIORESCU” in an arc.

The gold, silver and copper-plated tombac coins are individually housed in transparent plastic capsules. The sets of coins are accompanied by leaflets featuring a presentation of the numismatic issue in Romanian, English and French. Each leaflet comes with a certificate of authenticity bearing the signatures of the Governor and the Chief Cashier of the National Bank of Romania.

The mintage of this numismatic issue is of 150 sets of coins (made of gold, silver and copper-plated tombac).

The selling price is lei 2,050.00, VAT excluded, per set of three coins (made of gold, silver and copper-plated tombac), including the leaflet.

The gold, silver and copper-plated tombac coins dedicated to the anniversary of 175 years since Titu Maiorescu’s birth are legal tender on the territory of Romania.

The sets of coins will be put into circulation through the branches of the National Bank of Romania in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Iaşi and Timişoara.

France issued an Euro coins set commemorating 50 years of European Space Cooperation

This year we are celebrating 50 years of European space cooperation and the Ariane rocket, which remains one of Europe’s greatest achievements. The Monnaie de Paris mint issued a coin set for this occasion. The set has 4 coins in it, 3 of gold (5, 50 and 200 Euro face value) and one made out of silver (10 euro).

New Romanian gold coin dedicated to the Four Gospels of Hurezi Monastery

Pursuant to the provisions of Law No. 312/2004 on the Statute of the National Bank of Romania, on 16 December 2013, the National Bank of Romania will put into circulation, for numismatic purposes, a gold coin dedicated to the history of gold – the Four Gospels of Hurezi Monastery.

The coin has the following characteristics:

The mintage of this numismatic issue is 500.

The selling price per gold coin, including the leaflet, is lei 310.00 excluding VAT.

The gold coin dedicated to the history of gold – the Four Gospels of Hurezi Monastery is legal tender on the territory of Romania.

These collector coins will be put into circulation through the branches of the National Bank of Romania in Bucharest, Cluj‑Napoca, Iaşi and Timişoara.

Malta issued 2 new coins depicting Auberge de Provence

Central Bank of Malta issued today two new Euro coins depicting Auberge de Provence.
Auberge de Provence is a baroque building built in 1571 for the Knights of Malta. Nowadays it is the house of the Maltese National Museum of Archaeology.

The 10 Euro coin is made out of Silver 0.925 and the 15 Euro coin is made out of Gold 0.999. Both coins are minted by the Royal Belgian Mint.

National Bank of Romania issued a gold coin to mark the 175th anniversary of Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu

National Bank of Romania will put on sale, starting 15th July, a gold coin dedicated to B. P. Hasdeu, to mark his 175th birth anniversary.

Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu (1838-1907) was an important Romanian philologist and writer. He was born in northern Bessarabia (now part of Ukraine), at that time part of the Russian Empire.

New Commemorative Coins Issued in Ukraine: 1025th Anniversary of Christianization of Kyivan Rus

On July 3rd, the National Bank of Ukraine put into circulation 3 new commemorative coins dedicated to the 1025th Anniversary of Christianization of Kyivan Rus, having the face values of 100, 20 and 5 hryvnia.

 The commemorative coins celebrate the introduction of Christianity as the state religion, which happened in the time of Prince Volodymyr the Great. According to the chronicles, the mass baptism of the Kyivan population took place in 988 at the spot where the Pochaina River fell into the Dnieper River. After this, Christianity became a dominant religion in the Kyivan Rus.

Central Bank of Ireland Issued 2 New Collector Coins dedicated to John F. Kennedy

The Central Bank of Ireland launched on June 27th two collector coins to celebrate the 50th anniversary of President John F. Kennedy’s visit to Ireland.

JFK 2-coin case and coins Combined

A €10 Silver Proof coin and a €20 Gold Proof coin have both been issued. The coins depict an iconic portrait of John F. Kennedy, the first President of the United States represented on an Irish coin. The silver coin is available individually and also in a set together with the gold one.

The Central Bank Director of Financial Operations, Maurice McGuire, said at the coins launch: “It is very appropriate that we launch this coin in New Ross today because it was on this very day fifty years ago that the President made the historic visit to his ancestral home, which has had such a lasting impact on the people of Ireland.”

Both coins were designed by Tom Fitzgerald and have a mintage of 35,000 units (25,000 units of the €10 silver coin and 10,000 units of the €20 gold coin).
