The Johnny Cash (Forever) stamp is being issued this year by United States Post as part of the exciting new Music Icons stamp series.
Johnny Cash was an American singer-songwriter, actor, and author, considered one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century. He is primarily remembered as a country music icon, but his songs and sound spanned other genres including rock and roll, blues, folk, and gospel.
Cash was known for his deep, distinctive bass-baritone voice and for his dark performance clothing, which earned him the nickname “The Man in Black”. He usually began his concerts with the phrase “Hello, I’m Johnny Cash.”, followed by his standard “Folsom Prison Blues”.
Resembling the appearance of a 45 rpm record sleeve, the square stamp features a photograph taken by Frank Bez during the photo session for Ring of Fire: The Best of Johnny Cash (1963).
